Donegal council meeting resumes; Cllr MacGiolla Easbuig leaves in solidarity with Cllr McBrearty



A meeting of Donegal County Council has resumed this afternoon after having been adjourned following stormy scenes this morning during a heated debate on the MICA scandal..

Independent Councillor for Lifford-Stranorlar Frank McBrearty had been demanding answers from the council on a motion related to the MICA scandal and the purchase of materials from quarries.

Cllr McBrearty, who was accused of disruptive behaviour, was asked to leave the meeting but he refused to do so, demanding an apology from another councillor over a derogatory reference made to him.

This afternoon, Cllr Michael Cholm MacGiolla Easbuig said he was very upset over the treatment of Cllr McBrearty this morning.

He also said he was leaving the meeting this afternoon in solidarity with Cllr McBrearty.

Cathaoirleach Clr Jack Murray told councillors Cllr McBrearty was allowed join this afternoon’s meeting if he wished.
