New freight train service will help reduce carbon emissions



A new freight train service from the North West and West to the South East is set to take 5,000 lorries off the road.

The joint venture by Irish Rail and XPO Logistics will haul containers from Ballina to be loaded onto ships at Waterford Port

The aim is to increase the frequency to two trains a week on the route before Christmas.

Irish Rail freight manager Glen Carr says getting more freight trains moving is going to be key to cutting carbon emissions:
