Local wind awareness representative questions job potential of industry



A local representative from a wind awareness group is dismissing the claims that tens of thousands of new jobs are at risk if Ireland fails to hit its 2030 wind energy targets.

Wind Energy Ireland, says the country’s not on track to meet the commitment in the programme for the government.

They claim that up to 10 new wind farms are needed to reach the goal and CEO of Wind Energy Ireland, Noel Cunniffe, says a real plan is needed moving forward:

Concern has been raised in the North West in recent times about the size of turbines being used when it comes to the construction of new wind farms.

Wind Aware Dromahair spokeswoman Adrienne Diamond says the number of jobs that will be created long term will be small in comparison to employment opportunities from other energy projects:
