Councillors want more outdoor workers, planning staff

Sligo councillors are to seek departmental approval to recruit more outdoor staff, which now number about a quarter of what they were 10 years ago.

Councillors also want approval for additional staff for the council’s planning section as a matter of urgency.

The motions were put down at this month’s meeting of the council by Independent Councillor Michael Clarke.

In relation to staff in the council’s planning department, he said they were in a housing crisis and were about to start a review of the County Development Plan.

Cllr Clarke pointed out that the new chief executive of the county council is to carry out a review of the staff situation.

However, councillors insist more outdoor staff are needed because the council is often judged by the work the public see being done.
