First class trip for sea turtle found in Donegal

A logger head turtle found in Rosbeg in Co. Donegal two years ago is being flown from Dublin to Gran Canaria today.

The Three year old Julius Caesar, named by those who found him due to his resilience, is believed to have got caught up in the wrong current and swept along the gulf stream, and when found was suffering from hypothermia and was stunned by the cold water around Ireland.

Covid-19 restrictions had prevented previous repatriation efforts.

He will be flown in a specially designed waterproof crate on an Aer Lingus flight to the Canary Islands.
