Massive increase in visitors to north west amenity areas



There has been a massive increase in the number of people visiting outdoor amenity areas and recreational spots through the north west since the onset of the Covid pandemic.

Forests and woodlands have been among the most popular.

€65,000 has now been allocated for a number of Coillte-owned forests in County Sligo.

The money is going towards the upgrading of the car park in by Slish Wood, Lissadell and Dooney, while around Coolaney, there will be a new dry toilet purchased to cater for the increase oin the number of visitors to the area.

Ards Forest Park in Donegal is getting €60,000 to upgrade its main access road.

Sligo Fine Gael Councillor Thomas Walsh says there has been a 40% increase in the number of people visiting amenities since the pandemic struck.
