The money is going towards the Connacht Ulster Alliancem which encompasses ITSligo, LYIT and GMIT; their  ultimate goal is to create a univeristy for the region.

All three ITs will share in the funding as they progress towards the formation of the technological university.

Fianna Fail Sligo/Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry says having such an instituion in the region will bring many benefits.

He told OceanFM News he hopes the new university will be in operation in January 2022, with St Angela’s College in Clogherevagh, Sligo, also included.
