Deputy Joe McHugh leads tributes to Donegal politician



The Tánaiste and Leader of Fine Gael, Leo Varadkar has led the tributes to the late Donegal Councillor, Bernard McGuinness.

Bernard McGuiness was first elected to Donegal County Council in 1979, and has was returned to office at each subsequent election since that time.

 

Donegal TD Joe McHugh described Cllr McGuinness as his political mentor for more than two decades and describsed him as father figure to many new generation councilors.

“In Bernard’s 42 years in politics he continued to keep his politics on the basics with his no nonsense common sense approach to all challenges.

“Bernard was an honourable decent man and a Fine Gael man to the back bone.

Speaking earlier to Ocean FM news Deputy McHugh outlined how tributes have come in from far an near for Bernard McGuinness.
