Parents and guardians advised not to display child’s name on schoolbag

Donegal Gardaí have issued advice for parents and guardians not to have name tags with their childrens name visible on the outside of their schoolbag.

The advice comes ahead of schools starting the new academic year as Gardaí say a child will automatically presume that anyone who knows their name is not a stranger.

The advice is for names on the outside of the bag that would be easily identified not for the likes of pencil cases or stickers that can be personalised and stored within.

Sligo Independent Councillor and Teacher at St. Mary’s College in Ballisodare, Marie Casserly, says Ireland and schools are safe places but it’s sound advice nonetheless.
