Sligo has the highest commercial vacancy rate in the country



A report looking at vacancy levels in commercial property has found that Sligo had the highest vacancy rate in the Country.  Donegal and Leitrim have also have high levels of vacant commercial properties.

 

The findings in this study are keeping very much with the findings of previous reports.  Across the Western Sea Board there is a significantly higher commercial vacancy rate compared to Counties along the Eastern Sea Board.

 

The rate of commercial vacancy in Sligo was found to be at 20% the highest in the Country.

Leitrim has the third highest rate in the Country with a figure of 17.2%

 

Donegal is also in the top 5 of Counties in the Country for commercial vacancies the figure here is 16.8%.

The report has also confirmed that there are higher levels of empty units in the west of the country.

 

17 % of units in the west are vacant, compared to 12 percent in Leinster.

 

Nationally, commercial vacancy rates increased by 0.1 percent to 13.6 between June 2020 and June 2021.

 

Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal also witnessed upward changes from this time last year with Sligo’s figure increasing 0.6 %, Donegal 0.3% and Leitrim 0.1%

The GeoView Commercial Vacancy Rates Report has analysed the commercial vacancy rates in selected towns across the country in June 2021. It found that Ballybofey, Co. Donegal, remained the town with the highest vacancy rate (29.3%) in Ireland.  The vacancy rate for Sligo Town increased from 22.9% in 2020 to 24.1% in 2021.
