Time to acknowledge the efforts of frontline staff

A Sligo Councillor says it’s unacceptable that health workers are still looking for recognition for the trojan work they have carried out during the pandemic.

Trade Unions representing Health Care workers have called again on the Taoiseach to intervene.

The unions have urged him to authorise the HSE and other Government departments, to implement the promised recognition without further delay.

Ireland is now one of the few countries in Europe to not formally offer extra pay or time off to health care workers, which the unions say is damaging their morale.

Sligo Independent Councillor Marie Casserly says that with the pressure continuing to increase on front line staff in Hospitals such as Sligo University Hospital the situation should have been resolved before now.
