Efforts underway to keep 24-hour ATM in Ballymote

Efforts are taking place in Ballymote to keep a 24-hour ATM in the south Sligo town.

It’s after Bank of Ireland’s decision to close its branches in Ballymote and Tubbercurry.

In Ballymote, the only external ATM is operated from the Bank of Ireland building, which is to be sold.

An ATM is located in the SuperValu store in the town but this is available only during business hours.

More than 1,000 people recently signed an online petition calling for Bank of Ireland to continue its external ATM.

The petition was organised by former Sligo Fianna Fail councillor Keith Henry, who previously worked for Bank of Ireland.

Although the bank will not be continuing with its ATM service in Ballymote, Mr Henry says it’s now hoped a 24-hour ATM can be installed in another premises in the town.
