14 day rate continues to rise across the region



The 14 day incidence rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 population across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal continues to rise.

The latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre shows the rate in Co. Donegal is now 972.4 per 100,000 population, up from 838 last week while 1,548 new cases have been recorded.

Co. Leitrim has gone from a rate of 240.3 to 393.2 with 126 new cases.

While Sligo has also increased from a rate of 253.3 to 372.3 and 244 new cases of Covid-19.

The rate nationally is 355.4 while a total of 16,922 new cases have been recorded, an increase from 13,065 last week.

The rate of Covid-19 in one area of Donegal is over eight times the national average.

Carndonagh local electoral area has a 14-day incidence rate of 2,800 – by far the country’s highest.

One in every 36 people in the area tested positive in the two weeks to Monday.

Neighbouring Buncrana has the second highest rate, at 1,476, followed by Galway City Central, at 1,034.
