Sligo Council issue orrange fire warning

Sligo County Council is warning of an increased risk of fire as a result of the current good spell of weather.

The council is pointing out that a Condition Orange warning is currently in place for high fire risk until 12.00hrs this Friday.

Members of the public are urged to exercise caution during this phase of extremely dry weather.

The use of barbeques, camp fires and other open ignition sources should be avoided in or near areas where there is a risk of a vegetation fire starting, especially in areas with gorse, forestry, heather or dry grasses.

Sligo County Council urges people to report a fire immediately to the Fire Service by calling 999 or 112.

The council says people will not be billed by it for making the call.

Marian Coakley is the chief fire officer in Sligo she’s urging people to cooperate with the warnings:
