Funding to support women councillors

Funding has been announced by the Minister for Local Government to help women councillors set up regional caucuses or groups.

The total allocation is €62,000.

€5,000 is to go to a number of counties, including Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

The funding is in response to applications from the Association for Irish Local Government (AILG) and the group See Her Elected (SHE).

Sligo Independent Councillor Marie Casserly says women councillors need all the support they can get in what is still a male-dominated area.
