Cllr Paul Taylor the new Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council

Gurteen-based Fianna Fail Councillor Paul Taylor is the new cathaoirleach, or chairman, of Sligo County Council.

He was unanimously selected at a council meeting this morning after having been proposed by Cllr Martin Baker and seconded by Cllr Donal Gilroy.

Cllr Gilroy is new leas cathaoirleach, or vice chairman.

Cllr Taylor was first elected to the council in 2014 and was reelected in 2019.

He has previously served as leas cathaoirleach of the council and had been chairman of the Ballymote/Tubbercurry Municipal District.

Tributes were also paid this morning to the outgoing council cathaoirleach, Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey.

Speaking to Ocean FM News after his selection this morning, Cllr Taylor says mental health will be a major focus of his attention in the year ahead.
