Serious scrutiny required on compulsory purchase orders for land

A Leitrim Councillor says a Labour imitative aimed at addressing the housing crisis would need to stand up to serious scrutiny before it could be discussed.

The motion being proposed by Labour would grant local authorities the option of using compulsory purchase orders to purchase land at its agricultural value plus 25 per cent.

Manorhamilton Municipal District Councillor Padraig Fallon says property that is zoned would far exceed what the Labour party suggesting.

The Sinn Fein Councillor says landowners that would have purchased land when the property was more expensive would also stand to lose substantial amounts of money if they had to sell at the rate being proposed by the Labour Party.
