Local Councillor demands Sligo be included in redress scheme

The Department of Housing has not yet contacted Sligo County Council to confirm the county will be included in any Mica redress scheme.

That’s according to Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy, whose party’s motion calling for a 100% redress scheme was passed in the Dáil last night.

It followed yesterday’s major protest in Dublin over the Mica scandal that was attended by people from Donegal, Sligo and Mayo.

Cllr Healy’s call for Sligo to be included in any Mica redress scheme follows a similar call in the Dáil yesterday by Sligo/Leitrim Independent Deputy Marian Harkin, who said the issue should be treated as one affecting not just individual counties but the west and North West of Ireland.

Cllr Healy says he has now asked Sligo County Council to contact the Minister about Sligo’s situation if there is no clarification by this Friday.
