Mica campaign heating up

A Donegal TD says the current compensation for homeowners affected by Mica does not go far enough.

Houses in Donegal, Sligo and Mayo are among those affected.

The government has been told it should pay 100 per cent redress to people whose homes have been affected by Mica.

The mineral, used in thousands of Celtic Tiger-era homes, can cause walls to crack.

Many homeowners now have to demolish and rebuild their properties.

Donegal Sinn Fein TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn says more needs to be done for house-owners.

Mayo homeowner Louise Pye says while this was completely state funded for pyrite, properties hit by Mica are not fully covered.

The Taoiseach Micheal Martin will meet the Attorney General Paul Gallagher in the coming days to discuss the mica scandal.

It’s expected the Taoiseach tell the Attorney General he wants to hold insurance companies that have not helped those affected to account.
