€4.8 million in funding has been allocatd for a new Discovery Centre at the Shannon Pot.
Fáilte Ireland under their Platforms for Growth Programme have given the funding to Cavan County Council for the Shannon Pot and Cavan Burren Park, projects which are expected to transform tourism in West Cavan and create a major visitor attraction.
Funding will also be used for improved access to the facility, the creation of several walks around the Shannon Pot.
The funding under phase 2 of the project will focus on the archaeology and geology of the Burren as well as creating a dramatic visitor experience
Local Fianna Fail Councillor John Paul Feely says the primary focus is to tell the story of the River Shannon.
