McGettigans actions saves lives in Lahinch



The actions of  a Donegal man who was among a group of surfers acting in a voluntary capacity is believed to have saved more than 40 lives at Lahinch beach in Co Clare over the weekend.  There was no lifeguards were on duty at the beach over the weekend.

 

It’s understood that large numbers of people descended on the beach on Sunday and the Donegal Town native and four other surfers  could not leave the beach because they were afraid people would die.

 

The suffers were reported to have taken a large number of people from the water that got into difficulty.

 

Speaking in the Seanad yesterday Green Party Senator Róisín Garvey  paid tribute to the five men, that included Donegal town native  Aaron McGettigan.

 

Clare County Council have confirmed that they intend increase the lifeguard services, at busier beaches, from next weekend.
