Gardaí in Sligo are investigating what has been described as ‘a serious assault’ in the town this afternoon.
Gardai were alerted to the incident at about 2.20p.m. at Garavogue Villas, Sligo.
A man in his 40s was assaulted and taken to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries.
Another man in his 20s was arrested a short distance away and was taken to Ballymote Garda station, where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Investigations ongoing.
