GAA President & Dr Mike Ryan to launch new book on Markievicz Park



The President of the GAA, Larry McCarthy will be attending Markievicz Park next Sunday (May 16th) for the Sligo Leirim national football league to official launch a new publication celebrating the 70th anniversary of Markievicz Park.

The launch will take place behind closed doors at special midday ceremony in Markievicz Park next Sunday.

McCarthy will be assisted in launching the book by Dr Mike Ryan from the World Health Organisation.

He’s a native of Curry in County Sligo, and has vivid memories of the ‘Markievicz roar’ from his youth.

Dr Ryan will be part of next Sunday’s launch ceremony via zoom.

The new book entitled, ‘’History of Markievicz Park 1950 – 2020’’, is the work of the Sligo GAA Historical committee.

It was due to be published last year but the pandemic put paid to that.

So Sunday is the official launch date.

The event will be streamed live on the Sligo GAA Facebook page from 12pm.

It’s availabe for the public to buy after next Sunday’s launch from all clubs in the county, and from the GAA Centre of Excellence in Scarden – at price of €20.

Sunday’s launch will precede the Allianz Football League Division 4 North match between Sligo Leitrim at Markievicz Park,which will be broadcast live on Ocean FM Sport from 3pm.
