Landmark vaccinations figure reached

The Department of Health has confirmed that 3 more people have died as a result of Covid-19.

474 new cases of the virus have also been confirmed.

All three Counties in the North West reported new cases in yesterday’s figures.  Fewer than 5 cases were detected in Sligo, however there were 8 cases in Leitrim and 36 in Donegal.

1.5 million Covid-19 vaccines have now been administered across the country.

That landmark was reached last night, and nearly 30 per cent of over-16s have received at least one jab.

The government says 50 to 59-year-olds will be able to register for a vaccine within the next week.

Donegal based GP, Dr Denis McCauley, from the Irish Medical Organisation, says the programme has been successful so far.
