Donegal to face Down in Ulster championship

Donegal have been handed a trip to Pairc Esler in Newry in the preliminary round of this year’s Ulster senior football championship.

Declan Bonner’s team were the second team out of the draw drum during Tuesday evening’s draw, which was conducted live on RTÉ,

The winners of the game will meet Derry in the Ulster quarter-final – a county currently managed by former Donegal and Fermanagh boss Rory Gallagher.

The stand-out match from the quarter-final pairings will be the meeting of Tyrone, under the new management of Fergal Logan and Brian Dooher, against Ulster champions Cavan.

The winners of Tyrone-Cavan are set to face who ever emerges from Down/Donegal/Derry in the provincial semi-final.

All games will be decided on the day, including the Ulster final.

There is no backdoor in this year’s All-Ireland football championship.

Dates, times and venues for the Ulster games have still to be finalised.
