Nolan – Ireland’s coming to the end of this period of the pandemic.

The Department of Health has confirmed there has been one additional death from Covid-19.

The latest figures realised also show that there were 687 new cases.

There were 5 additional cases in Sligo, 31 in Donegal and less than 5 in Leitrim.

The number of Covid-19 patients in Hospital continues to fall, the latest figures say there are 540 people receiving treatment in hospital for the virus.

There have been no Covid-19 admissions to ICU in the past 24 hours, for the first time in 2021.

7 people are being treated in Sligo University Hospital with 2 in the ICU unit.

11 people are being treated in Letterkenny University with 4 in the ICU unit.

Professor Philip Nolan, who chairs NPHET’s modelling group, says key indicators show Ireland’s coming to the end of this period of the pandemic.

But he says while our numbers are moving in the right direction, progress is slow:

285,780 have received their first dose of the vaccine

140,290 have received their second dose at this stage.
