Councillors concerned over plans for Land Development Agency

Councillors throughout the north west are voicing concerns about proposals that they say would allow council land to be handed over to the Land Development Agency without any input from local representatives.

Motions on the issue are down for discussion at council meetings to take place this coming Monday.

Leitrim Councillor Des Guckian and Sligo Councillor Michael Clarke are calling on their local authorities to make formal submissions to the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage outlining their ‘complete opposition’ to the proposed provisions of the Land Development Agency Bill 2021.

They say the proposed removal of the function of councillors in relation to the disposal of local authority land to the Land Development Agency is unacceptable and ‘an affront to democracy.’

Cllr Clarke says it’s important that there is local input into decisions on land use.
