New scheme to encourage the use of outdoor public places for entertainment

A new scheme has been announced aimed at encouraging the use of outdoor public spaces dedicated for the arts, culture and festivals.

Local authorities can apply for grants of upto €250,000 under the Outdoor Public Space Scheme 2021 with particular emphasis being place on the night time economy.

Applications for the scheme will remain open during the pandemic with projects encouraged to help and support the recovery of the entertainment and arts sector after Covid-19.

Sligo Fine Gael Councillor, Thomas Walsh, who has suggested an Events Officer be appointed by the council to facilitate large scale ideas is welcoming the news.

Speaking to OceanFM News, he says it’s important we focus now on what ideas could help facilitate growing local economies in the future.
