Cllr Queenan: Culleens, Gleneaskey property owners should ‘not have to pay’ for fire services

Calls have been made on the local authority in Sligo to withdraw requests for payment for fire-fighting services which occurred after the fire brigade were called to deal with major gorse and forestry fires in the Culleens and Gleneaskey areas of County Sligo last May.

Approximately 16 property are being impacted with the amounts believed to be significant in some cases.

Landowners are refusing to pay the bills, claiming that this is the first time Sligo Council have sought payment for the fire brigade dealing with such a situation.

Ballymote Tubbercurry Independent Councillor Joe Queenan will table a motion at a meeting of the local authority next week requesting the Council withdraw the demands for payment.

Cllr Queenan says it’s unfair that landowners should have to foot the bill.
