Redress scheme for Mother and Baby Home survivors needed as a priority

A local TD says the Commission of Investigation Report into Mother and Baby Homes has failed survivors in many ways.

TD’s have been discussing the report in the Dail with some County Councils around the country also considering issuing an apology for their involvement.

Donegal Sinn Fein TD, Pearse Doherty, says the report tries to ‘universalise’ blame which he believes absolves the Church and State of ‘primary responsibility’.

Deputy Doherty says measures such as adequate redress schemes need to implemented as soon as possible.

While Fianna Fail Sligo/Leitrim TD, Marc MacSharry, says the state does not hold itself to account.

He claims the system is ‘rigged’ and setup in a way to delay over and over.
