Sheep cert required to boost cross border sales



A leading farming official in the north west is calling for an all- Ireland sheep health certificate.

 

Leitrim farmer and IFA official Kevin Comiskey says given the fact that Brexit has resulted in the border is in the Irish Sea, it will leave a large shortage of breeding stock in Northern Ireland as they sourced up to 15000 annually in the UK.

 

Kevin Comiskey says this creates an opportunity for farmers from the six Counties to come south to source Sheep.

 

He says that if the Department of Agriculture and in Northern Ireland should  work together to make this happen in the interest of sheep farmers and also in the best interest of animal welfare
