The death has occurred of the former Sligo County Manager Paul Byrne.
He was Sligo’s top local authority official for more than 15 years until 1993.
He was born in 1932 in County Longford and joined Sligo County Council as a clerical officer in 1949.
He subsequently worked as town clerk in Kells; and as a staff officer, county accountant and county secretary with Donegal County Council.
He was a programme manager with the North Western Health Board and county manager in Roscommon before returning to Sligo as county manager in September 1977.
Sligo Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Dara Mulvey and Acting Chief Executive Tom Kilfeather have conveyed their sympathy to the late Mr Byrne’s family on behalf of the local authority.
