Icy conditions on NW roads

Road users throughout the north west are advised this New Year’s Eve morning to drive with care because of icy and slippery conditions in many areas.

Particular care is needed on minor rural roads and footpaths in towns.

A Status Yellow snow and ice warning is in place for Louth, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth until noon today.

Although a snow and ice warning for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo ended at 7am this morning, there’s still ice and a coating of snow on some roads throughout the three counties.

Gritter lorries have been out on roads in the region but motorists are urged to beware of black ice in places.
