Overall Covid rate of infection decreases across the region



Co. Donegal still has the highest rate of Covid-19 infection per 100,00 people and has also seen a slight increase when compared to this time last week.

Leitrim continues to have the lowest rate in the country while Sligo remains on a steady downwards trend.

Between November 26th and December 9th, 395 new cases were recorded in the region; 22 in County Sligo, 367 in Donegal and 6 in Leitrim.

This compares to 375 cases recorded between November 19th and December 2nd.

The national rate of infection per 100,000 people is now 79.

The rate of infection, accurate as of the 7th of December, for the local electoral area of Sligo/Drumcliff has remained at less than 5 and the Sligo/Strandhill area has gone down from 47.3 to 37.9.

Ballymote/Tubbercurry, has decreased from 93.5 to 37.9 while the rate for Co. Sligo as a whole is 33.6, down from 51.9.

In South Donegal, the rate has decreased from 90.6 to 67.9 however the rate for the county has increased for the first time in a number of weeks going from 212.3 to 230.5.

This means the county remains the highest in Ireland.

And the Manorhamilton local electoral area has a current rate of infection of 46.2 cases per 100,000 people and Co. Leitrim remains the lowest nationally at 18.7 however the figure has doubled compared to last week’s 9.4.

Yesterday, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre confirmed 310 new cases and 15 additional deaths nationally, 10 of which took place in December, while the same time last week there were 183 new cases and 6 additional deaths.
