Two of the five local electoral areas in this area have recorded less than 5 cases of Covid-19 in latest 14 day incidence rate figures.

The Sligo/Drumcliff and Manorhamilton electoral area’s both reported fewer than 5 cases each.

Elsewhere in Sligo there were 10 cases in the Sligo/Strandhill Electoral area which has resulted in an R number of 47.3.

The National R number which indicates the rate of infection per 100,000 head of population stands at 87.0

This figure is surpassed by the Ballymote Tubbercurry electoral area which returned a figure of 93.5 or 25 cases.

The number of cases in the Donegal electoral area was 24 which resulted in an R number of 90.6.

Four other  regions in Co Donegal have 14-day incidence rates of Covid-19 that are about three times the national average.

The Letterkenny, Carndonagh, Milford and Buncrana local electoral areas have between 250 and 289 cases per 100,000 people.

GP Illona Duffy believes Donegal’s rate is connected to the high case numbers in the North.
