Leitrim has the lowest rate of infection per 100,000 people nationwide



Leitrim has the lowest rate of infection per 100,000 people in the country while Donegal remains the highest.

There were 20 new cases recorded in Co. Donegal and less than 5 in both Sligo and Leitrim according to the latest figures from the National Public Health Emergency Team.

The national average rate of infection is 98.2; Donegal remains the highest on 216.1, Sligo has a rate of 59.5 and Leitrim is at 31.2.

The Government have announced a move back to Level 3 from Tuesday with the reopening of retail and places of worship.

Restaurants will be able to open from Friday and from December 18th, travel restrictions will ease and up to three households can gather.

The measures comes despite a warning from NPHET that the risk’s still too high.

People are also being asked to wear face masks outdoors in crowded areas for the first time.

The Irish College of General Practitioners Covid-19 Lead Advisor, Dr Nuala O’Connor, is reminding people not to mix with others if you’re experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 saying they can be very mild.
