The health watchdog has found a Co. Donegal nursing home where 4 residents died from Covid 19 had no contingency plan in place for an outbreak of the virus.
It’s among 30 inspection reports published by HIQA today.
An unannounced inspection of Larissa Lodge in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal took place on August 13th.
Four residents died at the home during a Covid 19 outbreak in April, leading to a high level of staff turnover.
Residents said staff didn’t always come to answer their call bell when they rang it – and some said they didn’t feel safe at night.
The inspectors say staffing levels weren’t adequate to meet the needs of residents – and that risk management and infection control practices were not well managed.
There was also no contingency plan in place for a COVID-19 outbreak.
15 areas of non compliance were found in total.
Elsewhere, at Ryevale Nursing Home in Leixlip, Co. Kildare, where 40 residents died following an outbreak, one area of non compliance was found with risk management – inspectors highlighted dips in floors and a lack of handrails for residents
Elsewhere, there were no areas of non compliance found at Marymount Care Centre in Lucan, Co. Dublin – where 29 residents died following an outbreak of the virus.
Inspectors said there were arrangements in place to manage the outbreak in the centre – the outbreak was described by staff as devastating and a body blow to the centre.
