App for livestock sales crashes on farmers today

Livestock mart operators and the main farm union want the ban on buyers coming to buy animals in person lifted urgently.

It’s after the app used to arrange video sales at 15 marts across Ireland crashed leaving farmers to take thousands of animals home.

The IFA says it’s causing “major disruption” to the busy autumn sales period, with many farmers trying to move cattle off their land ahead of winter.

Emer McGuinness, Manager of the Donegal Town Mart believes many rural marts just don’t have strong enough internet connections.
