Weekly welfare payments to return at post offices

There’s been a broad local welcome for the news that post offices are to return to weekly social welfare payments.

The payments had been made on a fortnightly-basis since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The return to weekly-payments will come into effect at the end of the month or early November.

The Irish Postmaster’s Union had been pressing for the return to weekly payments as post offices are paid according to the number of transactions.

Sligo Independent Councillor Marie Casserly says this morning’s news is good for post offices, for people receiving their payments, many of whom budget on a week-to-week basis, and for local economies.
