New twist in story of IBAL anti-litter report on Sligo town

There’s been a new development in relation to the latest Irish Business Against Litter report on Sligo Town.

IBAL has now apologised for including an abandoned filling station from outside the town in its report that was issued yesterday.

It has also removed the site from the report, which has resulted in Sligo Town now moving upward from 18th to 14th place. However, this does not alter the town’s status as ‘Clean to European Norms’.

In a statement issued this afternoon, IBAL said it had been brought to its attention that a site included in An Taisce’s Round 1 2020 report for Sligo Town was, in fact, situated several kilometres outside the town limits.

Ocean FM News understands the site is on the road between Ransboro and McGarry’s Riding Centre at Carrowmore.

IBAL says it has instructed An Taisce to remove reference to the site from the report on Sligo town.

IBAL has apologised for the error, adding that it would like to extend its congratulations to Sligo County
Council and the Tidy Towns on a fine result for Sligo town.

The following is the full letter from IBAL, issued this afternoon:
