Harkin: BreastCheck screening is about saving lives

A Sligo/Leitrim TD is calling for the resumption of cancer screening services as soon as possible.

Independent Sligo/Leitrim Deputy Marian Harkin is making the call following figures from the European Cancer Information System that show 3,400 women in Ireland are at risk of developing breast cancer this year, while potentially 1,300 women and 1,850 men will develop colorectal cancer.

Supporting a Sinn Fein motion calling for screening services to resume, she says that any delay will cost lives.

Deputy Harkin says it’s three months after then Minister for Health Simon Harri, made a commitment to get BreastCheck services back up and running.

Speaking to OceanFM News, she says it’s about saving lives.
