Donegal woman becomes first female diver for Irish Navy

A Donegal woman has become the first female diver with the Irish Navy.

29 year old Sub-Lieutenant Tahlia Britton was awarded her qualification at Haulbowline Naval bases in Cork on Friday along with Able Seaman Emmet O’Hanlon and Able Mech Rob Mulqueen.

Sub-Lieutenant Britton joined the Naval Service in 2014 and was previously Gunnery Officer onboard the LÉ James Joyce.

The three divers will now undergo a 5 week ‘mixed gas’ training course.
