Water samples from Mullaghmore being analysed

It’s now likely to be two days before the water at Mullaghmore beach in north Sligo will be declared suitable for bathing and swimming.

It’s after a ban came into force yesterday afternoon.

Sligo County Council says the prohibition is due to what it describes as ‘an infrastructure malfunction at the beach’ that ‘could have’ an impact on water quality.

The prohibition will remain in place until it’s proven there is no risk to bathers.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy says samples of the water have been taken and will now be analysed.
