Hume greater than O’Connell or Parnell, says Banada man

People in South Sligo, particularly around Banada and Tourlestrane, are remembering the late John Hume today.

In 1997, John Hume visited Banada for the opening of a new Peace Park in the village, on the banks of the River Moy..

He returned to the area in 2003 following additional work having been done on the park.

Subsequently, the DUP Leader Ian Paisley also visited the area.

One of those involved in organising the visits was retired school teacher Sean Owens of the Banada Development Association.

Today, he recalled those visits by John Hume, describing him as even greater than the likes of Daniel O Connell and Charles Stewart Parnell.
