With schools soon reopening, call to solve transport issues

With schools reopening next month, there’s new calls on the Minister for Transport and Green Party leader Eamon Ryan to finally resolve the ongoing issue of a shortage of places on school buses in various parts of the region.

Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says all pupils — those with so-called concessionary and non-concessionary tickets — should be able to get a place on a school bus.

He gave the example of 10 pupils in Ballintogher area of County Sligo who, he said, were denied bus places last year even though they were entitled to them.

He says there’s similar situations throughout the country.
