Councillor disappointed with response to call for Caredoc service from Ballymote

A South Sligo councillor says he is disappointed by a HSE reply which reveals it’s unlikely a Caredoc Out of Hours service will be provided from the new primary health centre in Ballymote.

There is only one Caredoc facility in Sligo; it operates from the Barrack Street Primary Care Centre in Sligo town.

But Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey says there is a precedent in other counties for more than one base.

However, the HSE has told Cllr Mulvey that in the Ballymote area data for 2019 showed there was an average of 11 patients per week needing a face-to-face consultation with a duty GP in Caredoc.

50% of these consultations were on weekdays and 50% at weekends.

The HSE adds that in a number of other areas distances travelled to centres are much greater than between Ballymote and Sligo.

But Cllr Mulvey says full use should be made of the new Primary Centre in Ballymote by having both an ambulance and Caredoc base at the building.
