Social care workers should be treated like frontline staff



Social care workers should be regarded as ‘frontline workers,’ just like doctors and nurses.

That’s the opinion of the head of social sciences at IT Sligo, which has Ireland’s only approved third level degree course in social care practice.

Dr Breda McTaggart says the Covid-19 pandemic has underlined the large shortfall in the number of social care workers required to meet demand across the social care work sector.
