General election unlikely to be held during pandemic



A Sligo Leitrim TD says any plans to stage another general election campaign would be seen as reckless with the country engaged in a fierce battle with the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Sinn Fein spokesperson on justice and equality, Sligo Leitrim TD, Martin Kenny made the comments in repose to the speculation that Plans on how to hold a general election during the Covid-19 pandemic are being drawn up by government.

 

There are reports saying such plans would see voting spread out over a number of days, there’ll be postal votes for ‘cocooners’ and polling stations in nursing homes.

 

The plan could be put into operation if the current government formation talks fail.

 

Speaking earlier to OceanFM news Deputy Kenny says the staging of another election at present  would be is very unlikely.
