A decision on easing Covid-19 restrictions will be made today



A decision will be made later by the National Public Health Emergency Team on whether the country is ready to ease some Covid-19 restrictions from Monday.

 

It’s meeting a day earlier than scheduled, to allow ministers time to consider the official guidance before signing off on the measures tomorrow.

 

NPHET will also advise the government on whether facial coverings on public transport and in shops should be introduced from next week.

 

10 more people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the death toll to 1,497, while there are 23,400 confirmed cases.

 

The number of cases in the North West remains at 675.

 

There are now 472 cases in Donegal, a reduction of two compared to Tuesday’s figures.  Meanwhile one new case has been confirmed in both Sligo and Leitrim bringing their figures to 128 and 75 respectively.

 

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tony Holohan says whatever advice he gives today, the decision ultimately lies with Cabinet:
