Gorse fires along Donegal/Fermanagh border contained

Fire crews have contained gorse fires along the Donegal/Fermanagh border.

Late last night, the fires were observed on Breesy Mountain.

A fire in Co. Leitrim earlier this week is believed to have been started deliberately causing €500,000 worth of damage.

Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed, says that burnt land is not eligible for certain payments such as the Basic Payment Scheme.

While an Orange fire warning risk is in place until at least Friday.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Ballyshannon based Fine Gael Councillor, Barry Sweeney, says it’s unfortunate to see.

Councillor Sweeney does say that in this case, how the fire started is not yet known but it shows a great level of ‘cross border cooperation.’
